Peter states the problem in II Peter 3:3b-4, “…in the last days scoffers will come, and indulging in their own lusts and saying, ‘Where is the promise of his coming?’ For ever since our ancestors died, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation!”
Basically, why hasn’t Jesus come back? Why the wait?

"Let Love be Genuine"
Our scripture today lays out ways that our love for one another and our love for those outside the community of faith, the Church can be genuine.
The 1 Corinthians 13 scripture, which is often referred to as the “love chapter” and these verses from Romans, lay out ways that our love can be genuine. Now these ways are not all inclusive. There are other ways also, but these scriptures give us more than enough to work with today.

I want to start today by picking up last weeks theme “What comes out of the heart and mind makes us holy or defiles us.” One of our goals as Christians is purity of heart and mind, because purity of our hearts and minds will lead us into holiness of action-the perfect love of God and neighbor.

Matthew 15:10-20

“What Defiles Us?”
This scripture story we just read can be rather remote until we examine it more closely. It deals with concepts of holiness and defilement, being clean or unclean; concepts that we may find to be primitive or superstitious or outdated.
But concepts that need to be re-examined in our modern environment- especially the concept of defilement of our heart and mind that leads to defilement of our actions.
