2008 Devotionals

Members of our congregation were asked to write some devotionals to make up a collection and to be read during services in November. Below is a sample of one of those deveotionals. View entire devotional booklet as a PDF.

Thank You for My Life

Dear God, thank you for my life on this earth, however challenging or not.

Thank you for giving me free will to love and be loved, to make my own decisions, to learn from my mistakes, to laugh when I am happy, to cry when I am sad.

Thank you for my family, my pets, and for every other living creature I meet along my journey.

Thank you for giving me the strength to overcome adversity, to do what’s right for the benefit of others, and to rise above negativity.

Thank you for giving me hope for an end to world suffering, pain and war for a better world filled with light and everlasting love.

ROOM FOR YOU Adult Bible Study, meets at 9:00 A.M. in Room 17.   This week we begin our new, in-depth study of the Gospel of John.  It is not necessary to purchase a book or a study guide, and Bibles are available for use.   We provide coffee, share prayer concerns, and make every effort to emulate Jesus in our daily lives as we learn to apply God’s Word.  Please join us – there is always room for you!

CELEBRATION Celebration is an adult class made up of singles and couples who enjoy each others company to enhance our individual and collective relationships with God. Our senior member, Gary, is 90 years young. The rest of us span an age group of approximately 50-70.
While we are not a Bible study class specifically, we read different books selected by the class with basis in the Bible. We have studied individual books of the Bible, but that is not our strength. What we do best is come to class having read a chapter of a Christian book, discussing that chapter, and experiences and feelings the chapter has evoked. We don't always agree, and we do challenge each other. Respect and perhaps God has kept the class going for over 10 years and probably 30-40 books.
We are currently reading "Max on Life" by Oak Hillls Church (San Antonio Texas) Pastor, Max Lucado. It's set up in almost a devotional format, which has challenged us. The book presents  answers and insights to people's most important questions. Inquiries on everything from grace and the church to prayer and sex. Please visit us any Sunday (10:30 AM in Room 17); we welcome new friends and new experiences as a gift from God.
